A re-dedication to positive living

We're in the middle of the holiday season as I write this. Christmas music is playing in the background, there's a chill in the air outside, and for a short time, at least, all seems to be a bit more positive in the world. Whatever your religious beliefs, or if you have no religious beliefs, the season from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day is, for those of us in the United States of America, a more positive time. It's a time to be with family and friends, a time to share a bit of your life with those you love, and a time to start anew with the dawn of the new year.

This is a time where we can sit back and take inventory of our lives -- what we have done, and what we have yet to do.

It's been a difficult year for much of the world. Economic panic has set in, and has brought with it layoffs, unease, and pain. We've watched as many citizens of the nations of the world have found themselves worried about the future.

It's time to re-dedicate ourselves to thinking and living positively.

You know, it doesn't really matter a whole heck of a lot what's up in your life. Nothing good is ever going to be served by thinking in a negative manner. Things won't get done, people will fall by the wayside, you'll lose your focus. Thinking negatively is just bad business, no matter how the world around you looks.

Particularly if you're down and out temporarily, thinking negatively is just going to make things worse. The world is full of pessimists, cynics, doomsayers, and naysayers, but few if any of them ever contributed anything worthwhile at all. Progress in the world is built by the positive thinkers, not the "doom gang."

Of course, then we have the people who term themselves "realists." Odd that the "realists" seem to spout the same sort of tripe that the "pessimists" spout.

Look, reality is what you make of it. No matter what happens, there are differing ways to view it, different ways to evaluate it, different things to do about it, and different paths to take to address it. There are few things in this life that really are bad to the core -- most things have both bad and good sides -- they are what you make of them.

I don't really care what the media tells me is going on in the world around me -- what I care about is what I can gain from it, how I can learn from it, and what path and course I will follow in the future.

Ultimately, what matters most is not where you are -- but where you are going. Wherever you go, make certain it's in a positive direction. Take these two weeks to re-dedicate your life to positive living and a positive future.
