Destiny

Destiny is something that is made, not stumbled upon.

Remember in the original Back to the Future movie? McFly is going up to Marty's mother and trying to be all suave, and he says to her: "You are my density," and then corrects it with "You are my destiny."

All right -- it's a cultural reference...but I imagine you remember the reference.

Well, many people think they're living a life to "find out their destiny." But most of them aren't looking for it, let alone setting out on a path to build a destiny. They're finding their density, instead. They're becoming thick.

I know a bunch of people who think that they have some sort of mystical destiny that they're following -- but although I can't prove them wrong, their destiny being mystical and everything, I believe we should worry less about finding a destiny that is out there in the clouds somewhere, and more about building a satisfactory destiny for ourselves.

Let's face it -- nobody cares as much about our lives as we do -- or at least nobody cares as much about us as we should care.

Our destiny should be a do-it-yourself kind of thing. It should be something we choose, we plan, and we carry out. As much as possible, we need to choose the paths we take, and take the paths we choose.

We need to be the ones who keep ourselves on track, keep our nose pointed in the right direction, and then follow through with our plans. Nobody else is going to make our destiny for us -- unless we give up all responsibility to someone else, whether it be boss, politician, or TV commentator.

We must set our own destiny for the future.
